“Climbing to reach our highest potential”

November 2016

From the Desk of Mr. Gauchay

Winter is upon us and the temperatures are falling.  Please make certain your child is dressed accordingly. Children will only be allowed in the building after they arrive on campus if the air temperature or wind chill falls to 0 degrees.  Recesses will be held indoors if necessary.

I appreciate the patience you have shown with our new traffic pattern as we try to make the campus safer for you and your students.  Just as a reminder, the bus loop is closed to all car traffic, and the main parking lot is to be used strictly as a park and walk area.  All parents driving their students to school are requested to use the parent loop and drop them off in the drop off/pick up zone. Please remember to pull forward to accommodate high traffic flow.

Your continued support of your children and the school is greatly appreciated. Please feel welcome to visit the campus at any time.  If ever you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me (569-8200 - cell, 552-8500 - school).

PTO News

What a fantastic Fall!  Between our Scholastic and Barnes & Noble book fairs you managed to earn over $3,000 for our library! We're now in the works on getting the yard improvements scheduled and done, but we can't do it without you. If you haven't donated to the Bonneville Education Fund, now is the time! The tax year is coming to an end, so use those donations to your advantage and write them off! As a reminder, the final school shirt order is going on now.  Please get your order forms in by this Friday to ensure that your items make it back before Christmas Break. Finally, we want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!!! We are beyond grateful to have such wonderful students, parents, and staff to work with!!

Please remember that our only major fundraiser this year will be conducted through the Bonneville Education Foundation.  Using the BEF, 100% percent of all money raised goes directly to the school! If you have not yet contributed, please do so soon. Our goal is to raise $15,000.00 to further develop the grass in the fields west and south of the building.  Not only does the grass need a healthy dose of herbicide and fertilizer, but in some areas, reseeding is needed.  The field also needs leveling. The school will work with District Maintenance personnel to acquire the use of a rolling machine to smooth the fields. Funds will also be used to purchase another chrome book lab and supplies for teachers.

The goal broken down, equates to approximately $28.35 per student.  Please consider this amount as you prepare your donation.  We would appreciate a higher percentage of families donating this year.  A strong majority of families (78%) were unable, or chose not to donate last year.  As an added incentive, the Summit Hills PTO will hold a raffle for a $300.00 gift card! For every $25.00 donated, the PTO will put the corresponding donor’s name on a raffle ticket for the drawing.  The drawing will occur when we reach our goal, or end of the year, whichever comes first.  For every $5,000.00 donated, Mr. Gauchay will perform a stunt worthy of the money!

As of November 1, we have raised $1,610.00!

Attached you will find a contribution form for your donation.  You are welcome to drop it by the District office or the school.  Please see attachment for tax saving information. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated!

Please do everything possible to get your child to school on time every day.  We have been asked by the District Administration to maintain an attendance rate of 95%.   This is totally possible if we have help from home.  The District is reimbursed for attendance through a formula known as Average Daily Attendance (ADA). Every percentage point is equal to $500,000.00.  Scheduling doctor appointments either before or after school hours is strongly encouraged. Tardy students miss out on crucial instruction given at the beginning of class, and interrupt class as focus shifts from the teacher to the late student.

Road Construction

Sandy Drive has been extended into the neighborhood.  Please ensure the safety of your children by having them walk or ride on the side of the road. The north/south traffic on Lucina is required to stop, while the east/west traffic on Sandy does not. Please be very cautious as you approach this intersection. More home construction will certainly result.  Please remind your children to avoid areas where heavy machinery is being used for construction.

Counselor’s Corner – Mr. Keppner

This month, our students are expressing their gratitude in many ways. Each student wrote on a paper feather about something they are grateful for that helps motivate them to be better, work harder, and reach their goals. These feathers will help make a turkey in the hall, displaying hundreds of reasons we have to be thankful. It has been fun to hear from the students about the things they care about in their lives and reasons they love you. You are welcome to stop in and see the turkey during the month of November. It will be on display in the hall outside of the counselor’s office, on the way to the cafeteria.
